Chief Operating Officer
Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (0.6 – 1.0 FTE)
Salary: Competitive, based on experience

About Us
South Cumbria Multi-Academy Trust (SCMAT) is a dynamic and growing organisation, comprising six schools across Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. We are committed to delivering excellence in education and ensuring strong financial and operational leadership to support our schools.

The Role
We are seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our Senior Leadership Team. This key role will provide strategic business advice, operational leadership, and financial management across the Trust. The successful candidate will also act as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), as required by the Academy Trust Handbook.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead and manage the Trust’s business, financial, and operational functions.
  2. Provide strategic direction on financial planning and resource management.
  3. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and governance frameworks.
  4. Oversee estates, HR, procurement, and IT services.
  5. Work closely with the CEO and Trustees to drive the Trust’s strategic vision.

Who We Are Looking For
  1. A highly skilled financial and business leader with experience in senior operational and financial management.
  2. Proven ability to lead and manage complex multi-site operations.
  3. Strong understanding of financial compliance, governance, and risk management within the education sector or a similar environment.
  4. Excellent leadership and communication skills to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
