Newcastle Health Research Partners (NHRP) – an Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) – is seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Operating Officer (COO) to help lead transformative change across health, social care, and research in the region.

NHRP is a collaborative partnership between Newcastle University, Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, Newcastle City Council, and Northumbria University. Our collective mission is to drive change in the health, wealth, and wellbeing of over 3.2 million people living in the North East of England and North Cumbria.

As a pioneering AHSC, we integrate health research, clinical excellence, education, and innovation to address major regional health challenges. We work to break down barriers, foster collaboration, and promote a whole-system approach that spans the life course, in partnership with NHS and local authority colleagues.

As COO, you will play a critical role in delivering the strategic vision of NHRP. Reporting to the NHRP Director and the Strategy Board, you will lead on the development and execution of strategy, manage relationships across partner organisations, and facilitate collaboration that drives real-world impact.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement NHRP’s strategic and operational plans
  2. Build and maintain strong, collegiate relationships with partner organisations and key stakeholders
  3. Support integration of research, clinical practice, and education to improve health outcomes
  4. Ensure effective structures and a sustainable financial model are in place to support NHRP’s strategic aims and performance

You will be a highly motivated leader with a strong track record in strategic delivery and partnership, with a proven track record of outstanding performance in a previous complex stakeholder environment. You will bring a deep understanding of the health and care, Higher Education, Life Sciences and Public Services landscape, excellent interpersonal skills, and the vision to drive forward our collaborative mission.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of health and research transformation in the North East. The post is offered on a part-time basis (0.5 FTE, 18.5 hours/week) as a two-year fixed-term contract.
