The Air Ambulance Service is an executive medical leadership role, reporting to the Chief Executive, with board-level responsibility for clinical governance, strategy, workforce planning and risk management, while continuing to operate as an HEMS flight doctor.

The appointee will lead the Clinical Governance Framework, act as Responsible Officer for doctors, and shape a long-term medical workforce plan, ensuring regulatory compliance and effective liaison with the Trustee Board.

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration.
• Senior clinical leadership experience.
• Strategic level experience in the charity sector.
• Leading a high-performing team in a complex organisation.
• Experience in creating and delivering departmental strategy.
• Training, support and guidance to a multidisciplinary team.
• High-level reporting, business case preparation and board-level participation.

Responsabilités

• Provide strategic clinical leadership and set clinical direction across clinical services.
• Design, implement and monitor the Clinical Governance Framework, including SOPs, education and CPD.
• Act as Responsible Officer for doctors employed or contracted by TAAS, including appraisals, revalidation recommendations and GMC liaison.
• Jointly develop and deliver the clinical strategy with the COO and Associate Director of Operations, linked to the charity business plan.
• Provide clinical advice to the Trustee Board and act as a bridge between clinicians and the board.
• Lead and line manage the Deputy Medical Directors and wider doctor team.
• Develop a long-term medical workforce plan and support recruitment of clinical and support staff.
• Assess and manage strategic clinical risk and ensure mitigations are in place.
• Monitor compliance with regulations such as CQC and JRCALC, and ensure statutory reporting requirements are met.
• Oversee the clinical response to serious incidents and give clinical advice on legal and coronial issues.
• Build clinical networks and partnerships with pre-hospital and hospital providers, and represent TAAS on the Immediate Care forums in the East and West Midlands.
• Maintain competencies as an operational HEMS flight doctor.
