Amplir seeks a Chief Legal Officer (Co-Founder) to join its mission-driven legal tech startup. This executive-level position will leverage legal expertise to guide product strategy, ensure accuracy, and foster partnerships within the legal sector. Amplir is building the next generation of AI-powered legal research — an intelligent platform trained on over 230,000 UK legal decisions, designed to democratize access to justice.
Traditional legal databases are costly, complex, and exclusionary. Amplir combines cutting-edge natural language processing with a modern user experience to deliver fast, affordable, and precise legal research for every practitioner — from solo lawyers to chambers and legal aid organisations.
We're currently in our early stage, with a complete whitepaper, live platform, and strong market positioning. We're now looking to expand the founding team with legal expertise.
Role
We are seeking a Chief Legal Officer (Co-Founder) to join Amplir and help lead our journey from early traction to scaled impact. This is a founding-level position for someone ready to shape the product, strategy, and purpose of the company from the inside out.
You will work closely with the technical founder and product team to ensure legal validity, enhance domain accuracy, and support go-to-market efforts, while helping us build trust across the legal sector.
Key Responsibilities
• Strategic Legal Insight - Provide strategic legal insight to guide product and platform development.
• Legal Accuracy & Relevance - Ensure legal accuracy and relevance across jurisdictions and practice areas.
• Ethics & Governance - Advise on legal ethics, professional standards, and data governance.
• Partnership Development - Support partnerships with legal organisations, firms, and nonprofits.
• Thought Leadership - Act as a spokesperson or thought leader (optional but valued).
• Strategic Vision - Help establish credibility with investors, regulators, and legal users. Co-define long-term vision, priorities, and operational models.
Required Qualifications
• A qualified solicitor or barrister in the UK or Ireland.
• Strong understanding of legal research workflows and challenges.
• Passionate about access to justice, legal technology, and innovation.
• Comfortable in a startup or entrepreneurial environment.
• Willing to contribute in a hands-on, flexible capacity in the early phase.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience with platforms like LexisNexis, Westlaw, or Justis.
• Background in legal publishing, legal aid, or access to justice work.
• Interest or experience in AI, NLP, or legal informatics.
• Existing network within legal tech or professional communities.
