Job description

The Haldane Group is one of the leading independent suppliers to the construction industry in the UK and Ireland, serving both trade customers and the general public. It is made up of Haldane Fisher NI, Haldane Fisher Isle of Man, Haldane Fisher UK, GE Robinson, Key Hardware, Plumbmaster, and Bathline.

Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Board and CEO, the Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, implementing robust financial controls, fostering a culture of financial excellence, driving corporate strategy, and sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Control & Reporting
  1. Manage day-to-day accounting. Overall responsibility for the group's financial accounting, management accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, treasury, and payroll processing functions.
  2. Line Management for a team of 37 FTE across the Finance and Accounting disciplines.
  3. Cash flow and treasury management.
  4. Trustee of Group Defined Benefit Pension scheme - manage relationship with relevant professional advisors and advise Board on implications for Group.
  5. Produce monthly management accounts, Board MI, and annual financial statements.
  6. Oversee reconciliations, accounting journals, and accounts payable/receivable processes.
Tax & Compliance
  1. Handle tax calculations and ensure timely regulatory filings.
  2. Champion governance and compliance.
Strategic Planning & Analysis
  1. Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to inform strategic decision-making.
  2. Present insights and recommendations to the Board regarding financial risks, opportunities, and cost efficiencies.
Vendor & Supplier Management
  1. Maintain relationships with banking service providers, suppliers, and partners.
  2. Implement and maintain robust due diligence processes for onboarding and ongoing vendor management.
Skills & Experience
  1. Professional Qualification: ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent.
  2. Financial Leadership: Proven success as a senior finance leader (Finance Director, CFO, or equivalent) with experience scaling financial strategy in a dynamic organisation.
  3. Technical Accounting & Controls: Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial controls, reconciliations, audit management, and risk frameworks.
  4. Analytical & Strategic Mindset: Skilled at interpreting complex data, driving insights, and influencing high-level decisions.
  5. Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, comfortable collaborating with senior stakeholders and Board members.
  6. Team Leadership: Adept at coaching and developing team members.
