About Our Client

Sustrans is a charity working since 1977 to promote active travel and improve community connectivity. We are seeking a new Executive Director of Finance and Resources to support our 2025-30 strategy, which aims to enhance the National Cycle Network, transform the school run, and integrate walking, wheeling, cycling, and public transport. The successful candidate will lead the organisation through a period of reorganization, inspiring support and uniting teams.

Job Description

The role's purpose is threefold: to ensure Sustrans has the necessary resources and systems to deliver its strategy efficiently; to support the CEO in accountability and continuous improvement; and to maintain financial sustainability through effective planning and control. The role oversees Finance, IT, People, and Planning, Governance & Assurance functions. Key responsibilities include:

• Finance: Developing financial strategy, managing operations, safeguarding assets, and producing statutory accounts.
• IT & Systems: Overseeing IT operations and strategy implementation.
• People: Developing organizational culture and capability, ensuring HR policies are in place.
• Governance, Planning & Assurance: Managing risk, health and safety, data governance, reporting, and project assurance.

The Successful Applicant

• Qualified member of an accountancy body or equivalent.
• Extensive experience in strategic planning and organizational change.
• Proven leadership in managing high-performing teams and complex projects.
• Deep financial knowledge and legislative awareness.
• Experience across multiple sectors and organizational functions.
