Chief Executive Officer - UK Government Investments

UK Government Investments (UKGI) is the government’s centre of expertise for corporate finance and corporate governance. We advise on and execute some of the most significant and sensitive corporate finance matters in the country, in support of Ministerial objectives. We also act as the shareholder representative on behalf of departments for 24 of government’s most complex and commercial arm’s length bodies, including the National Wealth Fund, Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Ordnance Survey, The British Business Bank and National Energy System Operator. UKGI has a strong track record of providing high quality advice and stewardship to government-owned businesses to create value for society.

We are looking for an exceptional leader to become our nextChief Executive Officer, leading a high-performing team of 150 staff. As CEO, you will lead UKGI’s strategic direction and day-to-day operations, reporting to the UKGI Board and HM Treasury. Acting as the organisation’s senior representative across Whitehall, Westminster, and the private sector, you will ensure UKGI adds value in support of the government’s growth agenda. You will oversee the full breadth of UKGI’s work whilst inspiring and developing a high-performing team to maintain UKGI’s reputation as a trusted and expert partner to government.

We are seeking a candidate with substantial corporate finance leadership experience, ideally covering areas such as mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, restructuring, or privatisations. Our next CEO will be known for their commercial acumen, effective communication and sound judgement. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of working with a wide variety of senior stakeholders, ideally including government, and bring board-level experience with an understanding of governance in complex organisations. The role requires an inspirational leader, capable of navigating ambiguity with resilience, clarity, and purpose.
