Job summary

Thermoteknix Systems Ltd in Cambridge (near Waterbeach) seeks a Head of Engineering to lead Electronics, Software, Mechanical, Production Engineering, and Project & Programme Management. You will shape strategy, ensure delivery, and maintain high technical standards while fostering an innovative, cost-aware culture.

Reporting to the Technology & Operations Director, you will align engineering priorities with business goals, manage multiple programs, and develop the engineering team to deliver

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or Physics or related discipline.
• Significant experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Proven track record delivering complex hardware and software products.
• Strong skills in programme delivery, resource allocation and priority management.
• Good commercial awareness and understanding of cost, schedule, quality and product performance.
• Strong leadership, communication and decision-making skills.
• Ability to operate effectively at both strategic and detailed technical levels.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Engineering function with accountability and collaboration.
• Directly manage managers for Electronics, Software, Mechanical, Production, Project & Programme Management, and Innovation.
• Develop engineering management team through coaching, constructive challenge and succession planning.
• Ensure engineering departments operate as one integrated function with clear interfaces and strong communication.
• Lead regular engineering management reviews covering programme status, resource requirements, technical risks, priorities and decisions.
• Oversee engineering delivery across multiple development programmes ensuring proper planning and timely delivery.
• Drive productivity through simplification, automation and AI-assisted development.
• Align engineering priorities with wider business objectives and collaborate on roadmaps.
