Our client, a global engineering consultancy, is looking for a Chief Engineer – Mechanical Engineering, to join their team in Leamington Spa. This is a permanent position working 3 days on-site and 2 days at home.
They specialise in rapid engineering and development of sustainable electrified propulsion systems and related technologies, working directly with automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway, aerospace, and defence OEMs, Tier-1s, and research bodies through their technical centres across North America, the U.K., and India.
Position Description:
You will apply innovation and initiative daily to design and prototype propulsion and actuation systems for sustainable technology, within a focused team. Their systems range from 1 Watt to mega-Watts, powering vehicles and applications across land, air, and water, enabling their clients to achieve unprecedented feats.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver technical work packages and entire projects within or above agreed margins.
- Propose innovative R&D projects to the CTO.
- Review and approve precision 2D manufacturing drawings according to standards.
- Engage in business development within Mechanical Engineering, proposing scope, timelines, resources, and costs aligned with RFQs.
- Utilise and oversee advanced simulation techniques and design tools for transmission, driveline, and actuation systems.
- Develop new solutions to industry problems, leading to market-leading innovations.
- Implement DSD's technical processes, setting standards for quality in drawings and reports.
- Manage cross-functional projects, maintaining customer relationships and achieving financial targets.
- Build and sustain strategic relationships to enhance revenue streams.
- Contribute to the professional growth of team members.
- Participate actively in the Mechanical Engineering quality system, developing technical and procedural capabilities.
- Promote DSD through forums, conferences, and white papers.
- Handle challenging proposals and quotes, strategizing project execution while managing risks.
You will need:
- Extensive experience developing transmission systems in at least two sectors such as automotive, aerospace, off-highway, commercial vehicle, defence, clean energy, or marine.
- High competency in design and CAE analysis of rotating systems.
- Proficiency in applying GD&T for prototype and production components.
- Successful track record in system integration projects.
- Ability to develop compelling system propositions across engineering domains, including hydraulics, testing, controls, and electrified powertrains.
- Experience solving challenging problems with innovative techniques.
- Understanding of industry trends and technology applications.
- Proven ability to apply non-standard solutions and mentor others.
- Strong technical reputation and relationship management with customers and suppliers.
- Experience managing large, multidisciplinary projects through their entire development cycle.
- Expertise in key software packages like SMT MASTA, Romax, Creo, UGNX, Catia, Amesim, Recurdyn, Matlab, Altair, and Ansys.
- Ability to generate and manage commercial opportunities successfully.
- Understanding of the commercial aspects of a consultancy business is advantageous.
