Job summary

Dorset Council is seeking a visionary Chief Digital and Data Officer to lead our digital, data and technology service and shape how we use data, AI and automation to improve services for residents.

You will build capable teams, set strategy, govern data, and work across services to turn ambition into practical, lasting improvements, with hybrid working and a supportive leadership team.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading a digital, data or technology service in a large organisation.
• Ability to set direction, develop people and work across organisational boundaries.
• Experience building capability that lasts beyond projects and people.
• Strong understanding of data governance, analytics and information management.
• Knowledge of cyber security risk, information governance and operational resilience.
• Understanding ethical and legal considerations surrounding data, analytics and AI.
• Experience managing technology contracts and supplier relationships.
• Ability to influence across organisational boundaries and explain complex topics clearly.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Digital, Data and Technology service and its management team.
• Develop and drive the council's DDaT strategy across the organisation.
• Provide professional advice to senior leaders and elected members on opportunities, risks and choices in digital, data, technology and AI.
• Build capability and career pathways across the council and create lasting internal expertise.
• Establish data ownership, governance and standards and improve data reuse and safety.
• Oversee enterprise architecture principles and the resilience and sustainability of technology.
