Position:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chief Biomedical Scientist - Immunology based at University Hospital Crosshouse.
What you will do:
You will ensure the efficient management of the Immunology laboratory service in NHS Ayrshire and Arran, working with Departmental Haematology and Immunology Consultants and the Haematology Services Manager. Main duties include liaising with the Lead Scientist in Haematology to ensure effective diagnostic services, performing complex tests on patient samples, reporting and authorising results, and setting standards.
You will also help train unqualified staff, oversee Senior BMS, Specialist BMS, Trainee BMS, and Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) staff, and respond positively to service demands through innovation, communication, and standard setting.

Knowledge, training, and/or experience required:
You must be an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist, qualified to Master’s degree level or equivalent, with several years’ experience in an Immunology laboratory. As a team leader, you will manage HCPC Registered BMS staff, Trainee BMS, and MLA staff. A high degree of written and technical accuracy is required, along with experience in maintaining laboratory standards such as ISO15189:2022. Leadership and management experience, knowledge of quality management systems, good communication skills, and organizational ability are essential.

Hours:
37 hours per week. The department operates a 24/7 shift system, but the post holder is not required to participate in shifts, except for a 1 in 4 Saturday morning rota.
Driving Licence/Car Ownership:
A car licence/car ownership is essential.
