Overview

Your will report to the Head of Finance and have responsibility for a small accountancy team. Your role will be to lead the production of the Council's budget, statements of account, and provide quality financial information across the organisation. As the lead officer for the development of the Council's medium-term financial plan you will also play a key role in the provision of strategic financial information to the senior management team and members. This key finance post will supervise the delivery of a comprehensive finance service, with particular focus on leading a small team that delivers the finance business partnering requirements for the Council as well as, VAT, systems, treasury management, and Collection Fund accounting.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the production of the Council's budget, statements of account, and ensure high-quality financial information across the organisation.
  • Play a lead role in developing the Council's medium-term financial plan and provide strategic financial information to the senior management team and members.
  • Supervise the delivery of a comprehensive finance service, leading a small team that delivers the finance business partnering requirements for the Council, as well as VAT, systems, treasury management, and Collection Fund accounting.
Qualifications
  • Qualified accountant.
  • Experience in local government accounting is desirable.
  • Experience in preparation of statutory accounts, budget preparation and budgetary control is desirable.
  • Proficiency in the use of computerised financial systems.
  • Innovative self-starter who thrives on challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to build effective relationships across the council and communicate financial information clearly to colleagues.
