Role Overview
As a Chemical Process Operator, you will lead the shift team in achieving production goals set by the Day Shift Supervisor. You will ensure the plant operates efficiently, safely, and to a high-quality standard, while actively contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Safety First
Take an active role in all site safety programmes
Report accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly
Support the Health & Safety Manager in improving site safety and quality systems
Participate in internal audits, inspections, and risk assessments
Promote a safety-first approach in everything you do
Daily Duties
Carry out delegated tasks ensuring compliance, productivity, and quality
Assist with troubleshooting and process optimisation
Accurately complete batch records and process documentation
Maintain excellent housekeeping and safety standards in all work areas
Log maintenance issues through CMMS and collaborate closely with the maintenance team
Communicate key updates to the shift leader for effective handovers
Liaise with Quality Control and other departments to ensure smooth production
Monthly Duties
Support continuous improvement projects and attend performance review meetings
Assist in safety and production studies as required
Contribute to cross-departmental collaboration (Warehouse, QC, Engineering, etc.)
Drive operational excellence, transparency, and efficiency
Promote a culture of compliance with COMAH 2015 regulations
Help develop and improve safety procedures, including task-based risk assessments
Hours and Environment
This role operates on a rotating 3-shift system (detailed above), Monday to Friday. While you will be primarily site-based, some time may be spent attending meetings and supporting cross-functional collaboration. Flexibility for overtime may be required depending on business needs.
Skills & Experience Required
City & Guilds Plant Process Qualification preferred, or relevant experience
Proven leadership and team coordination in a fast-paced production environment
Strong understanding of chemical process operations, ideally on a top-tier COMAH site
Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements
Familiarity with COSHH regulations and H&S best practices
FLT and MEWP operation experience (advantageous)
Experience carrying out risk assessments and participating in audits
Ability to communicate effectively across teams and departments
