Job Description:

Role: Chemical Process Engineer (Full-Time / Hybrid) - Derby, Raynesway

We are seeking experienced and proactive individuals to lead chemical process engineering packages, contributing to high-impact projects such as the regeneration of the Raynesway Nuclear Licensed Site, which involves replacing current facilities with state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities.

The role involves working across multiple projects and lifecycle stages, interacting with internal and external stakeholders, and supporting a community of around 3,000 engineers in the Submarines business. The position is based in Derby with opportunities for hybrid working.

While nuclear facility experience is advantageous, applications from those willing to redeploy their skills in new areas are welcome. The key is a collaborative approach to integrating chemical engineering within overall engineering solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as 'Intelligent Customer' for chemical engineering design and construction, including process design, P&IDs, energy balances, hazard studies, and calculations.
  • Embed safety principles and ensure design compliance with engineering and project standards.
  • Develop design requirements and options, provide assurance, and review documentation and drawings.
  • Contribute to engineering plans, safety, and environmental documentation.
  • Ensure proper commissioning and decommissioning of chemical systems.
  • Support the Engineering Manager in maintaining SQEP standards and mentor junior engineers.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Degree in Chemical/Process Engineering or related discipline; experience and capability are considered.
  • Experience with nuclear and/or conventional facilities, UK infrastructure, and safety assessments.
  • Knowledge of Process Safety tools, modern control principles, and nuclear safety case production.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered/Incorporated status.
