Job description

PPCL was founded in 1994 and are the inventors, developers, owners and promoters of the Geometric Process Control (GPC) family of products that currently consists of CVE and CPM.

GPC is based on the little-used mathematics of multi-dimensional geometry which makes it possible for the CVE user to look at many hundreds of process and result variables in a single graph and by importing Operating Objectives to see both Operating Windows and Operating Envelopes. For real-time use, the Operating Window and Envelope are exported to the CPM product which uses an ML method to construct a high dimensional geometric model (100d++) complete with Operator Display and OPC Clients awaiting connection to DCS and/or Process Historians. One of the main requirements for using GPC is good domain knowledge and understanding, so as Chemical Engineers we are proud to support primarily the worlds process industries.

We have an immediate vacancy for a Chemical/Process Engineer. This is a permanent salaried appointment with a probationary period and is based in the UK with some foreign travel required.

Duties include:

  1. Pre-sale and post-sale prospect and customer support.
  2. Analysis and model-building using CVE and CPM.
  3. Teaching of customer classes on both products and on GPC (Geometric Process Control) Technology as it applies to popular plant applications such as Alarm Rationalization, Early-Warning prediction of developing process and equipment faults, the Finding of Operating Windows and Operating Envelopes in Client data for use in Continuous Improvement, Operating Excellence, Multi-variable Quality Control, Response Surface interpretation such as in Formulation Science, Multi-mode and multi-phase model creation in continuous, multi-grade and batch processes.
  4. Drafting and getting approval from Clients for promotional “success” stories.
  5. Creating articles and presentation materials, presenting at industry conferences and occasionally at Trade Shows.

Requirements:
  1. Candidates must already be in the UK with all legally required proofs of their right to live and work in the UK and should hold a passport allowing access to most Western countries, especially Europe and North America.
  2. Candidates should live within reasonable daily travelling distance of PPCL’s offices in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, which is on the road from London to Oxford and is about 10 miles from London Heathrow Airport. It is well-served with frequent trains from London, Oxford and Birmingham. The rail journey to London is typically 25 minutes direct to the West End.
  3. Candidates must have at least a First class bachelor's degree or a master's degree in Chemical Engineering. PhD degrees are especially welcomed.
  4. Some years of operations experience in a large onshore or offshore process plant are needed.

  6. As this is a customer-facing role, impeccable written and spoken English are essential.
