Job description

RAM Innovations is a UK-based advanced packaging company specialising in panel‑level embedded die technology for Si, SiC and GaN power modules. Our processes combine printed circuit board manufacturing with semiconductor integration to create compact, high‑performance power modules for automotive, aerospace and industrial markets.

As we scale our manufacturing capability, we are looking for a Process Chemist / Wet Process Engineer to support and work alongside our Senior Wet Process Specialist.

The Role

This role will support the control, optimisation and quality assurance of all wet chemical processes used within our PCB‑based die embedding technology.

You will assist in managing and maintaining chemical processes that are fundamental to surface preparation, plating, etching, and surface adhesion promotion. While chemical process control is central to the role, there is significant opportunity to broaden into wider manufacturing, R&D and production activities as the business grows.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to develop deep expertise in wet chemistry within an advanced manufacturing environment — or for a more experienced professional looking to apply their knowledge in a high‑technology, fast‑growing SME.

Key Responsibilities
Wet Chemical Process Control
  • Daily and weekly chemical analysis and control of production baths
  • Performing titrations and other analytical checks to ensure processes remain within specification
  • Monitoring and adjusting chemical concentrations
  • Recording results accurately and implementing corrective actions where required
  • Maintaining control charts and quality documentation
Chemical Handling & Preparation
  • Safe handling, storage and mixing of chemicals
  • Working with acids, bases and oxidising agents (e.g. sulphuric acid, ferric chloride, potassium permanganate)
  • Preparation of plating, desmear, adhesion promoter and etching chemistries
  • Mixing of inks, solder masks, adhesives and lead‑free solder pastes
Process Scope Includes
  • Electroplating and electroless plating
  • Chemical etching

As chemical quality control will not occupy 100% of the role, there will be clear opportunities to broaden your contribution in one of two directions as the business grows:

A) Production‑Focused Development
  • Involvement in wider manufacturing activities
  • Operating and understanding additional equipment and machinery
  • Supporting other PCB and embedding process steps
  • Contributing directly to low‑volume production builds
B) Quality & Process Development
  • Expanding into broader quality control activities across the business
  • Helping define and implement process checks and control methodologies
  • Supporting inspection processes in other manufacturing areas
  • Contributing to development of process documentation and quality systems

This flexibility allows the successful candidate to develop either as a hands‑on production specialist or as a wider process and quality‑focused engineer.

Candidate Profile

We welcome applications from individuals with a range of experience levels — from early‑career chemists to seasoned professionals. What matters most is competence, discipline and attention to detail in chemical process control.

  • Background in Chemistry (degree level desirable, but not mandatory with sufficient experience)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with chemicals in a laboratory or production environment
  • Experience performing titrations for quality control
  • Strong understanding of chemical safety and handling procedures
  • Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Experience mixing and preparing chemical solutions
  • High attention to detail and accurate record‑keeping
  • Methodical, safety‑conscious working style
  • Experience in PCB manufacturing or chemical process control
  • Experience with electroplating or electroless plating
  • Experience working in an R&D or advanced manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of quality systems and statistical process control
Personal Attributes
  • Naturally organised and quality‑focused
  • Comfortable working hands‑on in a production environment
  • Curious and willing to broaden beyond a purely chemistry role
  • Adaptable and comfortable in a growing SME
What We Offer
  • Opportunity to work in advanced semiconductor packaging
  • Involvement in cutting‑edge power electronics manufacturing
  • Real scope for career development as the company scales
  • A collaborative, technically ambitious environment
  • Exposure to both R&D and production
  • As RAM grows, there will be opportunities to specialise in chemical process ownership, quality leadership, or broader manufacturing engineering roles.
