Handley James Chemical is proud to be engaged as the search partner for a global chemical manufacturing business, specializing in fine and specialty chemicals, in the search for an experienced Chemical Engineer.

As a Chemical Engineer, you will deliver development projects to meet business needs, ensuring all processes are designed and engineered to an acceptable standard. You will work closely with the wider chemical and other engineering teams to implement and execute process improvement projects, train other members of the site where necessary, and ensure health and safety is always the top priority.

The successful candidate will be an experienced engineer with a degree in chemical engineering, strong project management experience, and knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities for improvement, including increasing throughput, reducing costs, minimizing operator input, reducing operator error risk, and enhancing SHE performance.
• Design and develop changes to processing equipment, including cost considerations.
• Implement changes using best practices, new equipment, and technology.
• Provide appropriate design tools.
• Perform yield calculations and identify gaps between theoretical and actual results.
• Evaluate production bottlenecks and enhance capacity through cycle time reduction.
• Plan and execute plant trials for process improvement and analyze data.
• Innovate to reduce or optimize energy consumption and work as part of a team to conserve energy and reduce costs.

Required Experience

• Degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering.
• Chartered Chemical Engineer or significant industry experience.
• Detailed knowledge of plant operations and process constraints.
• Training in Hazard Study systems.
• Proficiency in IT tools, including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
