Are you passionate about driving industrial decarbonisation and shaping the future of sustainable manufacturing? The Materials Processing Institute, a UK leader in industrial research and innovation, is looking for a Chemical Engineer to join our Energy and Process Decarbonisation Group.

About the Role

As a Chemical Engineer, you’ll play a key role in developing and scaling up low-carbon technologies. You’ll work on cutting-edge projects involving hydrogen systems, circular economy solutions, and energy recovery, using advanced tools like ASPEN, COMSOL, MATLAB, Python, and CFD simulations.

This is a unique opportunity to apply your technical expertise in process modelling, AI-based optimisation, and physics-based design to real-world challenges in the foundation industries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and validate advanced process models and CFD simulations.
  • Integrate experimental data and AI tools to optimise system performance.
  • Support pilot plant operations and industrial-scale technology deployment.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Contribute to techno-economic analyses and process control strategies.
What We’re Looking For
  • Degree (or PhD) in Chemical or Environmental Engineering.
  • Strong skills in process modelling, CFD, and data-driven optimisation.
  • Solid understanding of physical principles and process validation.
  • High aptitude for learning, adaptability, and value-driven thinking.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Desirable Extras
  • Experience with hydrogen technologies, sustainable cement, or circular economy.
  • Knowledge of industrial decarbonisation and process safety.
  • Experience presenting technical work at conferences or workshops.
