Job summary

BaxterStorey in Ulverston is seeking a Creative Chef Manager to lead a small 4‑strong kitchen team and drive fresh, high‑quality menus for a corporate catering location. This is a Monday–Friday role with opportunities to grow as the site expands.

You will oversee menu planning, food preparation, cost control, health and safety, and staff development while upholding BaxterStorey’s standards and values in a fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Chef Manager.
  • Ideally experience in corporate contract catering.
  • Excellent creative culinary skills.
  • Leadership and team management abilities.
  • Knowledge of food safety and health regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Menu planning and execution—create and plan menus and oversee food preparation and presentation.
  • Employee management—recruit, train and supervise kitchen staff and provide ongoing coaching.
  • Inventory and cost control—monitor stock levels and manage ordering to control costs.
  • Customer relations—understand catering needs and maintain open communication with clients.
  • Health and safety compliance—ensure adherence to regulations and promote a safe kitchen culture.
  • Budget and financial management—develop and manage kitchen budgets and report on performance.
  • Menu development and innovation—stay updated on culinary trends and refresh menus.
  • Compliance and documentation—maintain accurate records and ensure regulatory compliance.

Job description

A creative Chef Manager is required to run this new location in Ulverston. You will be working within a small team of 4 people which may grow as the site expands. Great opportunity to cook fresh food with the benefit of Monday to Friday working hours.,

Responsibilities
  • Menu Planning and Execution - create and plan menus in accordance with the style and customer preferences of the location. Oversee food preparation and presentation to ensure high-quality dishes, monitoring wastage and portion control
  • Employee Management - recruit, train, and supervise all colleagues, including chefs, cooks and front of house. Provide continual guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to kitchen team.
  • Inventory and Cost Control - monitor and manage stock levels, sensible approach to ordering supplies
  • Customer Relations - Interact with customers to understand their specific catering needs and preferences and maintain an open channel of communication to address any concerns or requirements. Consistently seeking feedback is key to success
  • Health and Safety Compliance - support the executive chef to ensure adherence to health and safety regulations and food safety protocols/policies. Create an environment that has safety embedded in the culture
  • Budget and Financial Management - develop and manage kitchen budgets, report on financial performance and implement any cost savings required without impacting delivery of excellence
  • Menu Development and Innovation - stay updated on culinary trends and incorporate new ideas into menus
  • Compliance and Documentation - maintain accurate records of inventory, orders, and food preparation processes and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, We work together as a team to lead by example, protecting the planet and supporting local communities.

You wil need to be a great all-rounder for this role. Due to the security of this location, you must be able to obtain National Security Clearance. You are also required to hold a full UK Drving License (min 3 years experience), as driving company vehicles will be required.,
