Job description

We are looking for an outstanding Chef Manager who is passionate about food and wants to make a difference.

You will work 37.5 hours a week at Cygnet Hospital Harrow, creating an excellent experience for the people in our care.

Cygnet Hospital Harrow provides a recovery-focused service treating a wide range of mental health problems. We also offer specialist diagnostic, assessment, and inpatient services for individuals with mental health needs who also have a dual diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.

Job Purpose:

To organize and control the efficient and economical production of quality food within the allowed budget, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Comply with relevant Cygnet Health Care policies, procedures, standards, and local protocols to ensure the safe and effective functioning of the department and hospital.
  • Provide meals for patients, staff, and visitors to the agreed quality standards.
  • Supervise department staff, including maintaining rotas, records of hours worked, staff absences, training, inductions, and disciplinaries.
  • Liaise with senior management regarding budgets and potential risks related to kitchen/food preparation.
  • Ensure the highest quality of food provision, maximizing access to organic and sustainable goods.
  • Coordinate with nursing colleagues to meet the nutritional needs of all patients and seek dietetic advice for patients with special needs.
  • Handle, maintain, and store kitchen equipment and chemicals according to procedures.
  • Train staff in Food Hygiene and relevant areas as required.
  • Work with the Therapy Manager to maintain cleanliness and service standards in therapy area kitchens.
  • Re-design menus every three months in consultation with dieticians and interested parties.

  • A skilled chef capable of working under pressure.
  • Holder of a City & Guilds 706-1 & 2 (or equivalent).
  • Preferably experienced in the care sector.
  • Able to plan nourishing and attractive menus within budget.
  • Holder of a food hygiene certificate, maintaining good personal hygiene standards.
  • Polite and professional, with a positive attitude towards internal and external stakeholders.
  • An excellent communicator able to liaise effectively at all levels.
  • Capable of working independently, as part of a team, and under supervision.
