Activate Learning Group is seeking a Chef de Partie for Merrist Wood College Campus to deliver high‑quality meals to students, staff and guests. You’ll join a committed food service team under the Chef Manager, with duties including food production, presentation, hygiene and safety.
The role requires basic kitchen management experience, a willingness to train in food hygiene, and clear communication. Term‑time hours and occasional extra shifts may apply.
We have a great opportunity to join our in‑house team at our Merrist Wood College Campus to deliver excellent food & refreshment services to our students, staff and guests. As Chef de Partie you will be responsible for the daily catering requirements of the College, ensuring that all meals produced are in a timely manner and to the highest standards. The post holder will be part of a Food service staff team and under the leadership of our Chef Manager, however on occasions, the post holder will be required to work on their own as the duty chef and be temporarily responsible at these times for all aspects of food production, presentation, hygiene, health and safety within the kitchens. This is a permanent, full‑time post working 37 hours per week during 38 weeks of term‑time (0.84). Pro‑rata to term‑time, the salary will be £22,601 - £24592 per annum. Primarily the hours will be 7am to 3pm Monday to Friday however an occasional 11am‑7pm might be required - with a flexible approach to support on pre‑planned Open Day events on selected evenings and weekends with prior notice.
You will have sound chef's skills as well as previous experience in basic kitchen management with the enthusiasm to develop your skills. If you don't have a food hygiene certificate you must be willing to work towards one, and possess an awareness of manual handling techniques, COSHH and kitchen safety. The successful candidate must be a clear communicator and have a minimum level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a Further Education environment, and be familiar with EPOS till operations, though we will provide training for this if not.
