Our vision is simple: to create warm, welcoming homes where every resident is treated with dignity, supported to maintain their independence, and encouraged to live life to the fullest.

Located in the historic market town of Hexham, our home provides a friendly and supportive environment for both residents and colleagues. We are currently looking for a passionate and dedicated Chef/Cook to join our team and play a vital role in enhancing the daily lives of our residents through nutritious, delicious, and home-cooked meals.

Food is at the heart of life in our homes. Mealtimes are an opportunity to bring people together, spark conversations, and create enjoyable experiences. If you have a passion for cooking, enjoy working with people, and take pride in delivering high-quality meals, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

As Chef/Cook, you will be responsible for delivering a varied and nutritious dining experience that meets the individual preferences and dietary needs of our residents. You will lead the kitchen team and ensure the highest standards of food quality, safety, and hygiene are maintained.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and cook a variety of appealing and nutritious meals tailored to residents' preferences, requests, and dietary requirements.
  • Follow Marton Care Homes' Good Food Guide and implement approved menu changes where required.
  • Supervise, support, and positively develop members of the kitchen team.
  • Conduct kitchen team appraisals and assist with recruitment when vacancies arise.
  • Ensure full compliance with HACCP, Health & Safety, COSHH, and Environmental Health regulations.
  • Maintain cleaning schedules and ensure the kitchen is consistently clean, organised, and safe.
  • Manage food ordering, stock control, deliveries, and stock rotation to maintain quality and minimise waste.
  • Monitor kitchen equipment, reporting faults or maintenance issues promptly.
  • Contribute to team meetings and support the induction and ongoing development of catering colleagues.
  • Build positive relationships with residents and families, gathering feedback and adapting menus where appropriate to improve dining experiences.
What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone who is:

  • Passionate about preparing high-quality food that makes a difference to people’s lives.
  • Warm, friendly, and approachable.
  • Organised, reliable, and able to manage a busy kitchen environment.
  • A strong team player with leadership qualities.
  • Knowledgeable about food hygiene and kitchen safety standards.
  • Flexible and willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Experienced within a professional kitchen environment.
  • Previous experience within a care home or healthcare setting would be advantageous but is not essential.
Why Join Us in Hexham?
