Job description

We are looking for a Chef De Partieto join us atKing's College, Taunton, working for the global catering provider Sodexo. This Team is skilled, Innovative and loves the challenge of an exciting and varied working week. The food we offer our students is the best in the region and beyond, and we need a forward-thinking chef to join our team. We offer straight shifts, and you will be working in a team that revolves around a two-week shift cycle. Our shifts are 06:15-14:15 and 11:45-19:45, with occasional alterations for functions. We do not work unsociable hours and your holiday allowance includes Bank Holidays. Christmas has an extended period of ‘’gifted’’ holiday.

What you do:

  • Be inspired by and help inspire the kitchen team.
  • Help control the complete catering operation.
  • Assist in managing and optimising food costs and reduce food waste.
  • Assist in ensuring uniformity in the food and service standards provided to fellow staff members, visitors and students.
  • Help ensure the highest standards of food hygiene are maintained.

What you bring:

  • Must have expertise on cooking on a large scale, anywhere between 200 -500 students.
  • Have experience following recipes, possibly in a similar setting.
  • Have experience working with fresh produce and ingredients.
  • Be aware of the importance of adhering to health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a busy Kitchen environment.
  • Be professional, and having a positive outlook is key.
  • Hold basic food handling skills certification:
    • NVQ Level 2 - desirable
    • Level 2 Food safety Certificate - desirable
    • A minimum of 1 years of experience in hands on cooking.
    • Training on Food Hygiene, and Health & Safety will be ongoing throughout the year.
