Job summary

OCS UK & Ireland is seeking a relief chef to cover a 7am–3pm shift, Monday to Friday, at our site in Reading. You will handle day-to-day food preparation, manage the cooking process at your station, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality dishes.

The role requires Level 2 in Catering and Hospitality or equivalent, while City & Guilds certification is preferred. You will work with a culinary team, adhere to safety and hygiene standards, and support inventory and stock control.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a chef in a similar role within contract catering.
  • Experience handling day-to-day food preparation and meeting site standards.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure while maintaining quality.

  • Manage the cooking process at your station for several dishes, ensuring timely delivery of food.
  • Follow safety, hygiene, and correct use of utensils and equipment on site.
  • Notify Senior Chefs when inventory is running low to keep kitchen stocked with fresh ingredients.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to maintain high-quality food and service throughout the shift.

About The Role

As part of your role, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

What are we looking for?
  • Proven experience as a Chef is desired. Candidates should have experience working in a similar role within Contract Catering
  • Possess a Level 2 in Catering and Hospitality or equivalent
  • Understand and be able to demonstrate various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and processes is essential. Candidates should also be able to multitask and work efficiently under pressure
  • The ability to work well in a team is crucial. Candidates should have excellent listening and communication skills
  • Understand the standard legal policies and procedures regarding receiving, preparation, storage and sanitation of food and the menu items fully, including the recipes, production and presentation methods
The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:
  • Must have the Right to Work in the UK
  • City & Guilds certification, BTEC, or NVQ at a basic level is require
  • Additionally, completing a food hygiene course at Level 2 would be desirable
  • Excellent customer service skills are essential
  • Good time-management and organisational abilities
