Job summary

Nuffield Health North Staffordshire Hospital in Newcastle-under-Lyme is seeking a Chef to join Sodexo’s healthcare catering team. You will prepare nutritious, high-quality meals for patients and staff, maintain food safety standards and manage your own section in a calm, patient-focused kitchen.

Qualifications

• A Food Safety Level 2 qualification (or equivalent); a professional cookery qualification is desirable.
• Previous experience preparing and cooking food in a professional kitchen, ideally within healthcare, hospitality or contract catering.
• A strong understanding of food hygiene, health and safety, allergen management and infection control practices.
• A passion for producing high-quality, nutritious meals with excellent attention to detail.
• The ability to work efficiently in a busy environment, prioritise tasks and remain calm under pressure.
• A positive, flexible and team-focused approach, with good communication and listening skills.
• A commitment to delivering excellent service and making a positive difference to the experience of patients, visitors and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook and present nutritious, high-quality meals for patients, visitors and colleagues in line with menu specifications.
• Ensure all food is prepared, stored and served in accordance with food safety, health and safety, and infection prevention standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised kitchen, ensuring equipment and work areas meet the highest hygiene standards.
• Support stock control, including stock takes, correct storage, stock rotation and minimising food waste.
• Work collaboratively with the wider catering and healthcare teams to deliver an excellent dining experience and meet dietary requirements.
• Respond promptly to feedback, report any food safety or operational issues, and support continuous improvement.
• Complete all required training and maintain high standards of professionalism, attendance and personal hygiene.
