Job summary

Cygnet Group is seeking a dedicated Chef for Willow House, a specialist residential service with nursing for adults with learning disabilities. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, 9am–5pm, within a Birmingham care home environment.

You will prepare meals, liaise with nursing staff on dietary needs, ensure kitchen cleanliness and supervise staff when required. DBS enhanced checks are required, with the potential for career progression and pension benefits.

Qualifications

  • Experienced chef, preferably in care sector.
  • Holder of a basic food hygiene certificate.
  • Polite, professional with a positive attitude.
  • Excellent communicator able to liaise with people at all levels.
  • Able to work on your own initiative, as part of a team and under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook and serve nutritious meals for patients, staff and visitors.
  • Meet patients' nutritional and dietary needs in liaison with nursing.
  • Ensure cleanliness of kitchen, service areas and dining room.
  • Supervise kitchen staff when deputising for Head Chef.
  • Maintain hygiene per Cygnet standards and food safety regs.
  • Handle and store kitchen equipment per Cygnet procedures.
  • Follow COSHH regulations when using chemicals.
  • Complete policy paperwork and documentation.
  • Order food items in line with policy and budget.
  • Complete required training to stay compliant.
  • Create or modify menu plans where required.

Willow House is a specialist residential service with nursing for adults with learning disabilities complex needs and behaviours that may challenge.

Your Day-to-Day...

You’ll be working full time, 40 hours 9am to 5pm (flexible to adjust but must suit operational needs) a week in a residential nursing care home with service users with Learning Disability, Autism and other mental health challenges.

  • Prepare, cook & serve nutritional, balanced and appetising meals for patients, staff & visitors
  • Liaise with nursing colleagues to meet patients' nutritional & dietary needs
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen, service areas & dining room
  • Supervise kitchen staff when deputising for the Head Chef
  • Maintain personal hygiene to comply with Cygnet standards and food hygiene regulations
  • Handle, maintain & store kitchen equipment in accordance with Cygnet procedures
  • Use chemicals in line with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.
