Cheder Compliance Manager – United Synagogue

    WORKING HOURS: 20 hours per week (including 4 hours on a Sunday)

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    1) Compliance and Safeguarding Oversight

    • Lead on safeguarding audits and quality assurance across all United Synagogue Chedarim.

    • Ensure that all cheder staff have completed appropriate safeguarding training and maintain current certifications.

    • Monitor compliance with the United Synagogue’s safeguarding policies and procedures.

    • Maintain central safeguarding records and follow all internal and statutory reporting and escalation procedures.

    • Conduct regular site visits to assess and support safeguarding and operational practice.

    • Liaise with local authorities and relevant agencies on safeguarding matters when required.

    • Ensure safe recruitment processes are adhered to by all cheder settings.

    • Operate in line with relevant legislation and guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and the Children Acts 1989/2004.

    • Provide guidance to Head Teachers and community stakeholders on best practice in safeguarding and compliance.

    2) Policy Implementation and Quality Assurance

    • Monitor and support the consistent implementation of United Synagogue education policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, and governance procedures.

    • Act as a central point of contact for queries relating to cheder policy and compliance.

    • Assist in the development and roll-out of new or revised policy frameworks as required.

    • Report regularly to the Director of Schools Strategy on trends, issues, and improvements required across the Chedarim network.

    3) Training and Support

    • Coordinate centralised safeguarding and compliance training opportunities for cheder staff.

    • Share best practices across settings and facilitate peer learning where appropriate.

    • Provide compliance-focused advice and resources to Head Teachers to support their operational delivery.

    GENERIC DUTIES

    • Committed to the aims of the United Synagogue and act as an ambassador for the organisation.

    • Comply with The United Synagogue’s policy and procedures and code of expectations.

    • Bring to the attention of senior staff any health and safety requirements, which become obvious.

    • In the event of any immediate danger, to take the appropriate action to reduce risk to physical danger to employees, members, contractors, volunteers, children, parents, visitors or staff.

    • Work collaboratively with other colleagues across the organisation to ensure that United Synagogue can achieve its vision, mission, and strategy.

    • Undertake appropriate training as requested by your line manager in conjunction with the Human Resources Department and be committed to own continuous professional development.

    • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Chief Executive or other designated senior staff/undertaking such other duties that occasionally fall within the purpose of the post.

    • Maintaining high levels of discretion and confidentiality at all times.
