Job title: Chatterbox project worker

Location: Bournemouth

Employment type: Part-time

Working hours: 5 Hours per week (Tuesday)

Salary: £3,174.60 per annum

About The Position

We are looking for a chatterbox project worker to join our team, to engage and support young disabled people aged 11-26 years old in developing and running their own youth action projects and voluntary activities. You will work with YMCA staff, external agencies and young disabled people to organise and run weekly participation sessions and other ad hoc activities, such as school holiday activities.

  • Understanding of the developmental, emotional, social and educational issues of young people
  • Knowledge of local and national mental health provision

  • Understanding of youth-led and youth-action models
  • Ability to be resilient and compassionate in a challenging environment
  • Skilled in delivering training to young people
  • Self-starter with the ability to drive forward an agenda
  • Good communication skills, the ability to work within a team, excellent time management, organisational and ICT skills

Qualifications And Experience

  • Experience of working with children and young people with disabilities aged 11-25 (essential)
  • Level 3 recognised qualification in youth/citizenship/community/disability work or equivalent (desirable)
  • GCSE English and Maths or equivalent (desired)
  • Level 3 in safeguarding children and young people (desired)

Additional Information

  • The role has a statutory, occupational requirement to ensure the safety and welfare of all children, young people and adults at risk that they may come across using our services. The post holder will take responsibility for ensuring safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk as a priority and follow both YMCA Bournemouth safeguarding policy and BCP Safeguarding Children Partnership and Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership statutory guidance.
  • Employment will be subject to satisfactory references, right to work checks and a Disclosure and Barring Service check. If the role involves regulated activity with children or adults at risk, your employment will be subject to an Enhanced level DBS check prior to commencement date. All other applicable roles will be subject to a Basic level DBS check prior to commencement date.
