Job summary

Kpler is seeking a Junior Market Data Analyst – Chartering to join our Chartering team and help ensure the quality and accuracy of the data powering our Chartering products. You will work hands-on with datasets from vessel ownership to fixtures, using SQL and Python to extract, transform and validate data, build quality checks and investigate issues.

Collaborating with Product, Data, Research, Engineering and AI/ML teams, you will turn data problems into systematic improvements.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in data analysis, market research, maritime/shipping, commodities or a related analytical role.
• Proven hands-on experience with SQL and writing queries to analyse large datasets.
• Proven hands-on experience with Python for data analysis, transformation or validation.
• Strong Excel / Google Sheets skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Comfortable working with large datasets and extracting/transferring data to answer questions.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, validate and improve the quality of key datasets supporting Kpler's Chartering products.
• Investigate data gaps and inconsistencies and drive root-cause resolutions.
• Curate and validate vessel ownership, commercial management and vessel characteristics.
• Review AI-parsed fixtures and build validation approaches to improve parsing quality.
• Use SQL to query large datasets (cargo and AIS) to identify issues at scale.
• Use Python notebooks to extract, transform and analyze data and develop validation scripts.
• Maintain and improve chartering-specific shipping zones and mappings (e.g., with QGIS).
• Collaborate with Product, Data, Research, Engineering and AI/ML teams to share feedback and improve datasets and extraction processes.
• Translate data-quality issues into systematic improvements and identify patterns across datasets.
• Contribute to new analytical views and algorithms as Chartering evolves (CPP/DPP and projections).
• Help establish data-quality metrics, benchmarks and processes as datasets expand.
