Chartered Surveyor – Minerals Team – Role Overview

The BEAMS (Built Environment and Minerals Surveying Team) at the VOA has exciting opportunities for RICS-qualified Chartered Surveyors to join our Minerals Surveying team.

The BEAMS team is known for professionalism, customer focus, and providing independent, impartial cost and surveying services. Our services are essential for maintaining the Agency's non-domestic rating list and extend to other government bodies. BEAMS delivers comprehensive mineral surveying services across a diverse and technically challenging property portfolio, including Energy from Waste (EfW) facilities, brickworks, concrete batching plants, HS2 infrastructure, and quarrying and tipping operations. Each property type requires bespoke valuation approaches and high technical proficiency.

This role offers opportunities for personal and professional growth, with comprehensive training and ongoing support to enhance your skills and knowledge.

As part of the team, you will need to travel across the country to meet business needs, ensuring impartial advice in your valuations.

Chartered Surveyor – Minerals Team – Key Responsibilities

• Valuing mineral and waste properties for Non-Domestic Rating purposes and assisting with related casework involving mineral or waste management interests.
• Maintaining your knowledge through CPD in legislation, case law, codes of practice, and professional standards relevant to your expertise.
• Managing risks and issues proactively, escalating to senior colleagues when necessary.
• Occasionally acting as an expert witness at Valuation Tribunal and courts, with training provided.
• Providing mentoring, technical advice, and training to support graduates, apprentices, and team development.
• Travel and overnight stays are required; flexible working arrangements are provided to support this.
