When you join us, you’ll be part of a genuinely collaborative environment where everyone’s voice is valued and treated equally. We’re passionate about what we do and offer flexible and remote working policies to help you balance life outside work.

We have a great opportunity for an experienced and well-rounded Chartered/Senior Geotechnical Engineer based in either our Edinburgh or Glasgow office to support our impressive current portfolio of prestigious geotechnical projects in the UK and internationally. The role supports projects in the infrastructure sector (defence, rail, highways & water) and the energy sector, including renewable energy, low carbon engineering and nuclear power.

As one of the UK’s leading geotechnical consultancies, AtkinsRéalis offers a comprehensive service in ground engineering. Locally you would be joining our team of geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists based in Scotland, with engagement across our national business.

Your purpose
  • You will be a chartered geotechnical engineer with a proven technical leadership and project management track record.
  • The role will include mentoring junior geotechnical engineers; good communication skills are essential.
  • We are especially interested in candidates with experience in Design and Build environments.
  • You should have a degree in civil engineering or geology with a postgraduate qualification in geotechnical subjects and hold chartered status as either a civil engineer or geologist.
  • You should have the drive and capability to help us develop and expand our infrastructure or energy geotechnics capability by building on our expanding, flexible and outward-looking team with work across a broad spectrum of sectors.
What you can bring
  • A good academic background with a degree (ideally MSc or equivalent).
  • Chartered status and proven experience in a fast-moving engineering consultancy environment.
  • Project management experience and understanding of client relationships, work planning and commercial management in engineering consultancy and design markets.
  • Proven geotechnical design experience and numerical/analytical capabilities for structures, foundations, slopes and anchors using appropriate tools and workflows. Experience with numerical software such as GeoStudio, Repute, Wallap, etc.
  • Digital geotechnical engineering capability including the application of AI and machine learning in geotechnical design.
  • Application of CDM Regulations in a design and ground investigation environment. Excellent interpersonal and technical skills to lead geotechnical design teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise with clients to support effective work winning and delivery.
  • Good commercial track record in negotiating and running successful projects to ensure right-first-time delivery. Excellent report writing skills and the ability to self-check and produce accurate work.
  • A willingness to travel on short assignments both within the UK and overseas. A valid UK driving license.
