Job summary

BWB Consulting is seeking a Chartered Geotechnical Design Practitioner to lead geotechnical delivery on complex UK projects, with a focus on highways. You’ll mentor teams, collaborate with project managers and environmental specialists, and drive sustainable, innovative ground solutions.

Qualifications

• Geotechnical delivery leadership on multi‑discipline projects.
• Degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology required.
• Chartered status with ICE or Geological Society preferred.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of geotechnical delivery across inter-disciplinary projects with a highways focus.
• Mentor colleagues and foster collaboration within the geotechnical community.
• Manage projects end-to-end—from ground investigations to design, approvals and completion.
• Provide hands-on technical expertise in earthworks, slope stability, foundations and ground improvement.
• Use Geo5; Plaxis experience is a bonus.

We’re looking for a Chartered Geotechnical Design Practitioner to join our growing geotechnical engineering team, where you’ll play a leading role in delivering innovative, sustainable ground engineering solutions on some of the UK’s most complex and high-profile projects.

From roads and rail to major strategic developments, you’ll be at the heart of projects that make a real impact — providing technical leadership, inspiring your team, and exceeding client expectations every step of the way.

What You’ll Be Doing

Lead and Inspire:

• Take ownership of geotechnical delivery across inter-disciplinary projects, with a strong focus on the highways sector.


• Work closely with project managers, structural and environmental specialists to deliver seamless solutions.


• Mentor and guide colleagues, fostering collaboration and helping our geotechnical community to thrive.

Deliver Excellence:

• Manage projects end-to-end — from scoping ground investigations through to design, approvals, and completion.


• Provide hands‑on technical expertise in earthworks, slope stability, foundations, ground improvement, and retaining structures.


• Use (and help others use) leading geotechnical software such as Geo5, with Plaxis experience an added bonus.

Engage and Influence:

• Be the trusted point of contact for clients, building strong relationships and ensuring their vision is brought to life.


• Champion clear communication and proactive problem‑solving throughout the project lifecycle.

Drive Innovation:

• Work with BWB’s geotechnical leaders to shape the future of our capability.


• Spot opportunities, embrace new ideas, and help us set the standard in sustainable, forward-thinking geotechnical design.

What You’ll Bring

Strong foundations – A degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline.

• Professional recognition – Chartered status with a relevant professional body (ICE, Geological Society of London, or similar).


• Proven expertise – A track record of leading and delivering the geotechnical aspects of complex, multi‑disciplinary projects.


• People skills – Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities, with the confidence to engage clients and stakeholders at all levels.


• Inspiring leadership – Experience in guiding and motivating teams, with a passion for creating a collaborative, supportive environment where others can grow.
