An established charity is seeking passionate individuals to join their trustee board. This unpaid voluntary role is vital for shaping the strategy and governance of the organization, which aims to support unpaid carers in Surrey. Ideal candidates will have a commitment to making a difference and may have personal experience as a carer. The role involves meeting quarterly and contributing to the charity's vision. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed, and training will be provided to ensure effective governance. If you are dedicated to community service and want to make a positive impact, this opportunity is for you.
Action for Carers Surrey has a vision ‘that every unpaid carer in Surrey is heard, valued and supported.’ We are a dedicated, passionate charity determined to make a difference to young and adult carers across Surrey. We are looking for new trustees to join the board.
Trusteeships are unpaid voluntary roles and are non-executive, meaning that they are collectively responsible for setting strategy and ensuring governance and that the organisation holds to their vision and mission. They do not carry out the day-to-day work of the charity and they currently meet four times a year.
The board works closely with the CEO and Senior team, and within this partnership, members of the board are encouraged to support and be a critical friend.
We want to keep the needs of carers at the heart of our decision making and for this reason, whilst by no means essential, experience of looking after a family member or friend, either as a child or an adult, past or present, is positively considered.
It is important that our trustee board is diverse in terms of professional backgrounds and experiences and also representative of communities that we serve within Surrey. We welcome applications regardless of sex, gender, race, age, sexuality, belief, or disability.
Most importantly, we are looking for board members who want to make a difference and are able to commit and contribute to what we want to achieve.
We are committed to safeguarding and protecting all children, young people, and vulnerable adults. As part of this commitment, we complete safer recruitment checks including enhanced child workforce DBS checks.
Training, including governance training, will be provided. Whilst this is a voluntary role, reasonable expenses such as travel expenses are paid.
To arrange an informal confidential conversation with a member of our trustee board, please email recruit@actionforcarers.org.uk.
To make an application, please submit your CV to recruit@actionforcarers.org.uk, alongside a brief outline, no more than 3 paragraphs, describing why you have applied for the role.
