Job summary

Cancer Research UK is seeking a motivated Assistant Shop Manager for its Putney shop to support the shop manager and team, maximise income through people, resources and stock, and represent the charity in the local community.

The role is permanent and part‑time (15 hours per week), with a pay rate of £13.72–£15.61 per hour and a benefits package. You’ll lead by example, assist with merchandising, customer service and fundraising activities while ensuring a positive shopper experience.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of delivering great customer service.
• Experience in lively, retail environments.
• Adaptable to changing situations and independent work.
• Commercial awareness to maximise store income.
• Ability to create relationships and communicate well.
• Flexibility to work on a rota across store hours.

Responsibilities

• Support the shop manager to guide and engage staff and volunteers.
• Assist with merchandising, stock management, and store standards.
• Lead by example in delivering excellent customer and donor service.
• Help achieve targets for donated stock, cash, gift aid, and stock processing.
• Build relationships with the local community and Cancer Research UK colleagues.
• Assist in organising fundraising events to meet targets.
• Maintain compliance with health and safety, safeguarding and HR policies.
• Deputise for the shop manager when needed.
• Handle manual handling and physical tasks as part of daily duties.
