At Glendale, we have a great new opportunity for a grounds maintenance chargehand leading a team delivering grounds maintenance operations on our new 15-year contract within the London Borough of Lewisham.

Who are you?

Candidates should demonstrate relevant grounds maintenance skills, leadership experience, and hold recognised practical qualifications such as NVQ level 2 or 3 in Amenity Horticulture or equivalent, LANTRA ride-on mower operation, pesticide application certificates, and at least 2 years of experience in a similar field.

  • A strong understanding and commitment to health & safety, and a full UK driver’s license are required.
  • Experience working on horticultural and grounds maintenance contracts is ideal.
  • Horticultural qualification is desirable.
  • You should be flexible, reliable, and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent people skills, good communication, and IT proficiency are essential.
A Glimpse into the Role

Based at our Lewisham contract, covering the North area, you will oversee daily grounds maintenance operations from the depot, including shrub pruning, weeding, planting, herbicide application, grass cutting, habitat management, and winter leaf clearing.

  • Responsibilities include ensuring the smooth running of the Deptford depot.
  • Assist the Contract Manager and Supervisor in contract operations.
  • This is a hands-on role requiring setting time frames, quality standards, and leading by example.
