NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employs around 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health care services to over 1.15 million people, extending to a population of 2.2 million with regional and national services.

The position offers a shift pattern of 5 days over 7, from 8:00 to 16:00 or 8:00 to 15:30.

We are seeking a Band 6 Charge Nurse for a newly created role at HMP Greenock, aimed at supporting the development of mental health care for inmates. While primarily based at HMP Greenock, the post may involve movement between four prison sites as needed. The successful candidate will work with the management team to deliver comprehensive mental health nursing services in collaboration with primary care and addiction specialists within a multidisciplinary team.

The role involves undertaking assessments, delivering interventions, and contributing to the continuous improvement of prison healthcare services as part of an extensive multidisciplinary team.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse at 1st level
  • Degree level education or equivalent
  • Significant post-registration clinical experience
  • Continuing professional development and relevant post-basic study
  • Knowledge of professional, legal, and accountability issues, including the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Willingness to undertake Non-Medical Prescribing
  • Full driving license
  • Knowledge of prison healthcare needs across primary care, mental health, women’s health, and addiction support
  • On the NMC register as a V300 practitioner or working towards registration
