Charge Nurse - Highfield Adolescent Mental Health Unit- Oxford

Are you enthusiastic? Passionate? Looking for an opportunity to lead?

We are looking for a compassionate individual to join us as a Band 6 Charge Nurse at the Highfield Unit, a state-of-the-art purpose built hospital which specialises in the care of those aged 11-18.

The Highfield Unit offers 18 inpatient beds to those young people who require intense support and treatment not possible within the community. We assess and treat those with a wide range of disorders and difficulties including; Eating disorders, Psychosis, Bi-Polar/Mood disorders, Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Self harm and relationship and attachment-based difficulties. We also have the provision of a 2 bed area for those that need High Dependency care.

Our service aims to provide excellent, safe care with the highest quality of nursing care to young people and their families whom require support from the inpatient team. We pride ourselves on being flexible, passionate and dynamic in our approach to treatment and care and aim to work with young people in a collaborative and holistic manner. Our practice is guided by evidence and best-practice and we believe excellent clinical supervision and reflective spaces are essential maintain wellbeing and reflective practice.

Main duties of the job

We have a large MDT team to work alongside including; Teachers, Psychologists, Dietican, Occupational therapists, Family therapist, Consultant and Medical team, Administrators, and Health care assistants. There is the opportunity to work alongside different disciplines to share knowledge, ideas and ensure that the assessment of a young person and their family is thorough and individualised.

You will have the opportunity to support the Clinical nurse leads and Modern Matron in leading the nursing team; this can range from being involved in supporting staff recruitment, assisting for interviews, delivering preceptorship, completing inductions and identifying training needs within the nursing team and resolving how to address these.

You will also assist in ensuring that the unit meets all Trust and National policies and guidelines and may support the implementation of any audits or changes in standards or policy alterations. You will be part of the team who identifies training needs and delivers these to the nursing team. You will provide day to day leadership to the ward and support the nursing team to develop.
