Job summary

Bandrum Nursing Home is seeking an experienced Charge Nurse to provide clinical leadership and day‑to‑day management within a specific area of the home. You will ensure residents receive safe, compassionate and person‑centred care while supporting and developing the nursing and care team.

You will lead on care planning, audits and quality improvement, maintaining high professional standards and working closely with families and multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Be a Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and day‑to‑day management within your area of the home.
• Oversee assessment, planning, delivery and review of residents’ care to ensure high standards.
• Manage staffing, workload, and skill mix; delegate and supervise.
• Support employee relations issues including performance, capability and disciplinary matters.
• Monitor staffing records, rotas, sickness absence, and HR information.
• Lead clinical audit, quality improvement, risk management, and infection control.
• Build positive relationships with residents and families and work with GPs and other professionals.
• Work with the Home Manager and deputise to support operation of the home.
• Ensure practice aligns with NMC Code and Bandrum policies.

THE ROLE

No two days in care are exactly the same.

As a Charge Nurse, you will provide clinical leadership and day-to-day management within your area of the home on a 24- hour basis. You will ensure that residents receive safe, effective and person‑centred care while supporting and developing the nursing and care team.

This will include:

• Providing clinical leadership and acting as a positive role model for the nursing and care team
• Overseeing the assessment, planning, delivery and review of residents’ care to ensure consistently high clinical standards
• Managing staffing, workload and skill mix, delegating appropriately and providing clinical supervision and guidance
• Supporting with employee relations matters, including performance, capability, disciplinary and grievance processes where required
• Monitoring staffing records, rotas, sickness absence, annual leave and other relevant HR information
• Leading on clinical audit, quality improvement, risk management and infection prevention and control
• Building positive relationships with residents and families and working collaboratively with GPs, Social Work, the Care Inspectorate and other health and social care professionals
• Working closely with the Care Home Manager and deputising where required to support the effective operation of the home
• Ensuring practice remains in line with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) Code, Health and Social Care Standards, Care Inspectorate requirements and Bandrum’s policies and procedures

There will also be difficult days as working in care can involve supporting residents and families through challenging and emotional situations. You will always have colleagues around you, and teamwork is an important part of how we provide care.

ABOUT YOU

Strong clinical knowledge is essential, alongside your ability to lead and support others.

We are looking for a Charge Nurse who is:

• Motivated to support their own development and that of the wider team

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

You will:

• Be a Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
• Demonstrate strong clinical leadership, sound decision‑making and the ability to work autonomously
• Have the clinical knowledge and competence to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate person‑centred nursing care
• Be able to prioritise and manage your own workload and that of others, responding effectively to changing needs and unexpected issues
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with residents, families and multidisciplinary teams
• Be confident providing supervision, guidance and support to colleagues, including contributing to staff performance and development
• Maintain accurate clinical records and reports in line with professional and organisational standards
• Be flexible and adaptable in your approach to meet the needs of residents and the service

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

It would be helpful if you already have:

• Previous experience in a Charge Nurse, Senior Nurse or similar clinical leadership role within a care environment
• Previous experience supervising, managing, mentoring and developing staff
• Knowledge of Care Inspectorate requirements and the Health and Social Care Standards
• Experience using electronic care planning, HR and clinical record systems
