Job description

The Spiritual and Pastoral Care team currently has a vacancy for a Band 6 Chaplain.

Applicants will need to demonstrate either healthcare chaplaincy experience or equivalent pastoral experience, with an aptitude for sensitive pastoral working in this context.

Applicants must have accreditation/licensing with the authority to practice as a religious or belief leader/representative and/or pastoral worker.

The role is based at Queen’s Hospital, Burton, but the Chaplain must be prepared to work at any of the five sites across the Trust.

Availability for weekend work and overnight 'on-call' duties is required, with the ability to be on-site within 60 minutes.

As a member of the Spiritual and Pastoral Care team, you will assist in delivering appropriate and sensitive spiritual, pastoral, and religious care for patients, staff, and visitors across the Trust, regardless of faith or belief.

The role requires a person-centred approach with active listening skills, from an experienced and proficient pastoral practitioner. It involves facilitating religious rites and sacraments and practicing in accordance with the UK Board of Healthcare Chaplaincy's Guidelines and Code of Conduct.

Chaplains share in providing 24-hour on-call cover, assessing and addressing pastoral, spiritual, and religious needs, responding to scheduled interactions, crisis situations, and emergency calls. The role also includes delivering training, supervising students, developing the chaplaincy service, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Frequent involvement in end-of-life care, including peri-natal loss and conducting baby funerals, is expected.
