The Planning Inspectorateis an executive agency of the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG). It is responsible for making decisions and providing recommendations in areas such as planning application appeals, local plan examinations and national infrastructure applications, as well as smaller specialist casework such as making decisions on commons and rights of way. The Inspectorate employs the country’s largest cohort of planning specialists and works alongside other parties to support the development of the planning sector.
