Job description

Recruiter Green Park Interim and Executive Limited

Diocese of Chelmsford

Chair of Audit and Risk Committee

The Diocese of Chelmsford serves the county of Essex, the unitary authority areas of Thurrock and Southend-on-Sea and the five east London boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest. Home to more than 3 million people, Chelmsford is the second largest diocese in the Church of England in terms of population, and one of the most diverse. Bishop Guli is a major figure in the wider Church, including her national work in the House of Lords and on the housing agenda.

The Diocese has a new strategy and ambitious plans for growth. To build on our culture of constructive challenge and support, and to support the work of the Diocese with robust governance, we are making three appointments, and we are looking for people who bring a passion and ambition for our work, and a real heart for the Church of England in Essex:

  • Vice Chair of the Board of Finance, who works closely with the Bishop and her team, and the officers, and ensure that diocesan mission and strategy is supported by effective financial strategy, planning and management.
  • Chair of Audit and Risk, who ensures we understand our risks, not just financial but also around safeguarding, data governance and cyber security.
  • Vice Chair of the DAC, the committee which supports our stewardship of our churches, particularly our heritage buildings.
