Job description

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) is the UK’s leading professional body for individuals working in the automotive sector. With over 100 years of heritage, we champion the professionalisation of the industry, supporting a 120,000 strong community of members and 73,000 learners across 89 countries.

We are seeking a new Chief Finance Officer (CFO) to lead finance, IT, and facilities. This is a key executive role in helping drive our mission forward, shaping the future of automotive careers, influencing policy, and fostering impactful networks.

About the Role

As CFO, you will:

  • Help create and execute IMI’s strategic vision, your focus will be ensuring long-term financial sustainability and growth.
  • Lead high-performing finance, IT, and facilities functions, fostering a collaborative and empowering culture ensuring all functional support provides exceptional service to the whole business.
  • Provide direction, clarity, and support to ensure team members are equipped to deliver.
  • Lead the budgeting process to ensure long term financial health and strategic goals are met.
  • Manage the month end accounting process and all statutory reporting requirements.
  • Ensure that IT systems and infrastructure meet audit and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure our Grade II listed building is kept in good state of repair.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven financial leadership experience in the automotive sector, membership association or a related industry.
  • Strategic and commercial acumen, able to partner and challenge executive peer group.
  • Dynamic and engaging leadership, with a track record of leading high performing (finance, IT, facilities) teams.
  • Qualified Accountant (ACA ACCA CIMA)
  • Strong governance and financial management skills, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and experience
