Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the CNA is to ensure residents receive care through tasks such as:

  • Assisting residents with bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, skin care, grooming, nail care, and dressing needs.
  • Feeding residents, providing bedside water, snacks, and transferring residents as needed, in accordance with nutritional plans.
  • Responding promptly to resident call lights and requests for assistance, following facility policy.
  • Maintaining resident rooms by making beds, changing linens, cleaning bedside tables, and organizing belongings.
  • Observing and reporting any changes in residents' appetite, skin condition, or behaviors.
  • Offering emotional support and active listening to help residents develop trust and independence.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and respecting residents' rights and privacy.
  • Documenting medical information such as vitals and assistance provided, as per facility policy.
  • Following safety, infection control, and cleanliness standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED, unless under a student permit.
  • Certification by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) as a CNA in good standing. CNAs transferring from another state may work 120 days while awaiting Indiana certification. Graduating CNA students may also work 120 days while awaiting certification.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with programs like Excel and Word.
  • Understanding of safe and effective nursing practices within Indiana.
  • Interpersonal skills, including:
    • Assisting licensed nurses with procedures within the scope of practice.
    • Following written and verbal instructions, working independently, and making decisions.
    • Dealing tactfully with residents, families, visitors, and staff.
    • Working harmoniously with team members.
    • Prioritizing tasks according to standards and policies.
    • Protecting confidential information in compliance with HIPAA and corporate policies.
    • Patience, enthusiasm, and a mature approach to resident care.
    • Adherence to professional ethics and effective communication of resident conditions.
