Job summary

Bon Secours seeks a Surgical Tech for the Cardiac Team. You will assist surgeons and nurses, prepare the operating room, gather supplies, and maintain sterile technique throughout procedures.

The role requires an associate degree in Surgical Technology, BLS, and NBSTSA certification, with 2 years OR experience. A sign-on bonus up to $10,000 is available. Join a team dedicated to compassionate patient care.

Qualifications

• Associate degree, Vocational Certification, or Military Certificate in Surgical Technology (required).
• 2 years’ experience in an Operating Room (required).
• BLS Basic Life Support (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
• Certified in NBSTSA or Certified Surgical First Technologist - NBSTSA (required)
• NBSTSA certification acceptable if certified before 2008 NBSTSA or NCCT certification is accepted.
• If employed in Virginia, must be certified by NBSTSA or its successor and hold a certification with the Virginia Board of Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Functions as the scrub person and assists as trained during operative and other invasive procedures by assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure.
• Prepares and organizes sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure and performs surgical counts with the circulating RN.
• Maintains an organized sterile field and ensures the sterility of the field by taking corrective action as needed. Assists with placement of sterile drapes. Provides instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure and maintains aseptic technique.
• Retrieves and collects specimens and labels specimens.
• Reports any implanted devices, catheters, drains, and packing to circulator. Provides complete case preparation.
• Provides complete case preparation and knows, with the ability to adapt, the special instruments, supplies, and equipment needs for patient populations.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the patient’s rights and responsibilities according to the patient’s age and understanding.
• Demonstrates understanding of the patient’s Advance Directives.
