A prominent cultural institution in London is seeking a Chief Executive to lead its transformation and growth. The ideal candidate will combine commercial acumen with a passion for community engagement, possessing significant experience in income generation and fundraising. This role presents an opportunity to make a lasting impact within one of the UK's key Black cultural venues, ensuring its sustainability and creativity for future generations.
Bernie Grant Arts Centre (BGAC) is a cultural hub for Black creativity in the heart of Tottenham. Founded in honour of the late MP Bernie Grant, the centre exists to showcase and celebrate the richness of the global Black diaspora through performance, learning and community. With a 250-seat auditorium, studios, rehearsal spaces, café, bar, courtyard and Enterprise Centre, BGAC is both a landmark venue and a vital civic space, rooted locally and connected internationally.
At the heart of BGAC is a commitment to putting Black creativity centre stage. From workshops and performances to festivals and discussions, the centre commissions work, builds audiences and provides a platform where the Black experience is expressed and celebrated. Tottenham remains its home and constant focus, but BGAC is increasingly reaching across London, the UK, and the global diaspora to forge new connections and collaborations.
The next few years will be a pivotal period of growth and renewal. As BGAC approaches its 20th anniversary in 2027 – when Haringey will also hold the title of London Borough of Culture – the organisation is strengthening its commercial model, diversifying income streams, and preparing for the next phase of its capital development. To lead this transformation, we are seeking a Chief Executive with the vision, resilience and commercial acumen to secure BGAC’s long-term future as both a cultural beacon and a sustainable business.
We’re looking for a proven leader who combines commercial sharpness with community passion and cultural insight. You’ll bring significant experience of income generation, fundraising and partnership-building, including demonstrable success in securing six-figure sums. You’ll have led organisations, teams and budgets of meaningful scale, with the financial management skills and entrepreneurial drive to create a thriving, mixed-income economy. Above all, you\'ll share our belief in the power of diverse creativity to inspire, challenge and transform.
This is an opportunity to make a lasting mark on one of the UK’s most important Black cultural institutions, ensuring it flourishes for decades to come. If you are ambitious for what BGAC can achieve – for Tottenham, for London, and for the wider global diaspora – we would be delighted to hear from you.
