Job summary

Hull City Council is seeking a Cemetery Grounds Operative to provide and promote a customer-focused horticultural service in the cemeteries and crematorium. The role requires handling grass cutting, bed maintenance, pruning, planting and hedge work with care, while liaising with the Bereavement Services Team to ensure compliance with rules and safety standards.

Grade 4 adds driving capabilities for up to 3.5t vehicles and mentoring Grade 3 operatives, volunteers, and staff.

Qualifications

• Grass cutting in cemeteries and crematoriums.
• General maintenance of beds, pruning and planting.
• First class customer focussed service for the bereaved.

Responsibilities

• Undertake grass cutting duties in the cemeteries and crematorium using pedestrian/hand-held/ride-on mowers.
• Maintain beds, prune roses/shrubs and clear litter/debris.
• Plant annuals and shrubs and trim hedges following best horticultural practices.
• Work with Bereavement Services Team and report breaches of rules/regulations.
• Ensure machinery and equipment are maintained and secured after each day.
• Cooperate with clergy, funeral directors and memorial masons to provide supportive service.
