Job summary

EnerSys is seeking a Cell Processing Technician to join our expanding Lithium-ion space battery team at Culham Science Centre, near Abingdon, Oxfordshire. You will prepare battery cells for engineering projects, handling receiving, inspecting, wrapping and charging cells, and supporting qualification and testing activities.

Qualifications

• Technical qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent in engineering or electronics.
• Experience in a technical, production, laboratory or quality-controlled environment preferred.
• Battery processing, electrical testing or inspection experience would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Receive, inspect and correctly store new cell batches.
• Perform visual inspections and electrical screening.
• Select, wrap and charge cells for project builds.
• Prepare cell layouts and charging documentation.
• Support testing activities, including Destructive Parts Analysis (DPA) and vibration testing.
• Complete all technical and quality documentation accurately and on time.
• Maintain cell stock in cell storage and cleanliness of processing areas.
• Carry out facility checks.
• Report equipment, screening and charging issues to the appropriate engineer or team leader.
• Follow health and safety, quality and Business Management System procedures.
• Support continuous improvement and cost-reduction activities.
• Support the wider business on any other activities given

Job Purpose

An excellent opportunity for a Cell Processing Technician to join a well-established, exciting and growing Lithium-ion space business. The company designs, manufacturers and qualifies batteries for international space missions on satellites, launchers, and interplanetary vehicles. The company’s customers include both national and international space agencies like NASA and European Space Agency as well as working across the commercial market supporting missions that include Earth observation, internet of things satellite constellations and global positioning systems. The position is based at Culham Science Centre, near Abingdon in Oxfordshire, and offers the opportunity to contribute to projects with a global impact.

As a Cell Processing Technician, you will prepare battery cells for engineering projects. Your responsibilities will include receiving, inspecting, screening, wrapping and charging cells, as well as supporting qualification and lot acceptance testing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Receive, inspect and correctly store new cell batches.


• Perform visual inspections and electrical screening.


• Select, wrap and charge cells for project builds.


• Prepare cell layouts and charging documentation.


• Support testing activities, including Destructive Parts Analysis (DPA) and vibration testing.

Education and Experience

• Technical qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience in engineering, electronics, manufacturing or a related field.


• Experience in a technical, production, laboratory or quality-controlled environment is preferred.


• Battery processing, electrical testing or inspection experience would be an advantage
