Dewis Centre for Independent Living is seeking a part-time Personal Assistant to support an energetic 11-year-old boy in Canton, Cardiff, with epilepsy. The role focuses on home safety and community activities, with work partly at home and in the community, 6 hours per week.

The ideal candidate will be patient, compassionate, reliable, and able to manage activities while keeping the child safe. DBS check arranged at no cost, with 5.6 weeks holiday pro rata and NI number requirements.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I’m an energetic 11-year-old living at home in Canton with my family and German Shepherd. I have epilepsy and I have been given funding so that my family can have a break whilst I can do things that I like doing. I like playing games, using the computer, watching films with snacks, going to the cinema and arcade games. I need support when using the stairs and I’m also unaware of danger, especially roads et cetera.

PURPOSE OF JOB

To keep me safe at home and in the community

PLACE OF WORK

Initially you will work with my parents until we get to know each other. This can be both at home and in the community.

HOURS OF WORK

I have 6 hours a week of support which will normally be in 2 or 3 hour blocks ideally at weekends, or some evenings, unless I’m on school holidays when we can be a bit more flexible.

RATE OF PAY

£15.70 per hour

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A probation period will be necessary in the first instance. Wages will be paid 4 weekly. You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You will be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you.
