Job summary

VIRTUS Data Centres is seeking a Health and Safety Manager – UK Construction Lead on a 3-year contract. You will ensure safe delivery of construction works, provide expert HSE advice, set expectations for designers and contractors, and monitor performance to meet legal and organisational standards.

The role requires strong knowledge of UK CDM regulations, client-side governance, and the ability to drive improvements across multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of UK construction health and safety legislation (CDM) and contractor management.
• Experience in client-side, contractor assurance, or project governance environments is essential.
• Ability to influence project teams and contractors without direct line management authority.

Responsibilities

• Support client duties under construction health and safety legislation (CDM 2015).
• Establish client-side arrangements for managing projects, including governance and escalation routes.
• Advise on safety requirements when appointing designers and contractors.
• Review safety documentation and contractor risk controls for compliance.
• Monitor contractor safety performance through inspections, audits and KPI reviews.
• Prepare safety performance reports and improvement recommendations for leadership teams.
