Job description

CDDS Clinical Engineering Support Technician

SCL/CDD Services are looking to recruit a hardworking, flexible, enthusiastic, and customer-focused individual to join our team.

We are currently seeking a Clinical Engineering Support Technician to join a team within the Clinical Engineering department, providing effective and efficient medical device repair and maintenance services.

The successful candidate will play an integral role in ensuring that medical devices are effectively and safely maintained across the Trust.

The successful applicant should have an interest in engineering and the maintenance of medical devices. Previous engineering experience is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided.

Main duties of the job
  1. Carry out service, repair, and calibration of basic medical equipment, including CPAPs, bed frames, nebulizers, electrical suction devices, pulse oximeters, etc.
  2. Provide service support at Respiratory Clinics.
  3. Conduct Electrical Safety Testing (EST) of biomedical equipment in clinical environments, including Critical Care areas.
  4. Order spare parts and consumables.
  5. Work flexibly across the Trust estate as required.

Job responsibilities
  1. Service, calibrate, and repair a wide range of equipment.
  2. Investigate user-reported equipment problems, trace faults, and rectify issues cost-effectively.
  3. Plan workloads, organize routine maintenance, and prioritize user-reported problems for efficiency.
  4. Perform acceptance testing of newly purchased equipment, verifying conformity and recording details.
  5. Maintain accurate equipment records for audit and traceability.
  6. Work within the Department's Quality System, adhering to standards and documentation.
  7. Requisition spare parts and repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
  8. Maintain departmental profile and standards within the Trust.
  9. Address safety notices, bulletins, and manufacturer notices.
  10. Care for and check calibration status of critical test equipment.
  11. Support Clinical Engineering Technicians as required.
  12. Perform any other tasks as directed by management.
Person Specification
Statutory Registration
  • Registration with a relevant professional body.
Experience
  • Knowledge of engineering and tooling.
  • Experience in a Clinical Engineering or hospital environment.
  • Experience in a related field.
Qualifications
  • Level 3 qualification in maths, science, or engineering preferred.
  • Manufacturer training on medical equipment.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to plan and organize a complex workload.
  • Knowledge of Quality Systems, including ISO 9001:2015.
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to travel across Trust sites.
